How to use Rotary Axis 6 with NEJE Max 4?

Posted by Joey Weng on

Overview

This guide details how to set up and use the Rotary Axis 6(R6) with the NEJE Max 4 laser engraver using the A-axis connection for precise cylindrical engraving. Follow these steps to configure the setup with either NEJE software or Light-burn for optimal results.

Step-by-Step Instructions(NEJE Software)

1. Connect the Rotary Axis 6:

Use the 5-pin signal cable to connect the rotary drive to the motherboard’s 5-pin A-axis port on the NEJE Max 4. Ensure a firm connection.

2. Secure the Workpiece:

Measure the diameter of your cylindrical object at this step first. Then fix the object securely on the Rotary Axis 6, adjusting the grabbing wheel as needed.

3. Frame the Design

Load your design in NEJE software and perform framing to determine the engraving location.

4. Enable Rotary Settings:

Activate Rotary Settings for neje machine
  1. Go to Edit > Rotary.
  2. Set Enable Rotary to ON.
  3. Select Rotary Type: R6.
  4. Set Output to: A Axis.
  5. Enter the object’s diameter in the diameter field.
  6. Save and close the settings.

5. Framing and Engraving

Confirm the alignment by framing, then set the engraving speed and power to start engraving. After engraving, the machine will automatically reset to the leftmost y-axis. If you do not need to use RA6 anymore, you can cancel the rotary in the ’edit’ interface for normal usage.

Step-by-Step Instructions(Lightburn Software)

1. Connect the Rotary Axis 6

Attach the 5-pin signal cable from the rotary drive to the NEJE Max 4’s 5-pin A-axis port.

2. Secure the Workpiece

After measure the diameter of the cylindrical object, securely fix the object on the Rotary Axis.

3. Configure Machine Settings:

Activate Rotary Settings for neje machine
  1. Go to Edit > Machine Settings > Outputs Setup.
  2. Set A Steps per mm ($103) to 44.444.
  3. Click Write and then OK to save.

4. Activate Rotary Settings

Activate Rotary Settings for neje machine
  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+R or go to Laser Tools > Rotary Setup
  2. Set Rotary Type to Chuck.
  3. Set Enable Rotary to ON.
  4. Select Rotary Axis to A Axis.
  5. Enter the object’s diameter in the diameter field.

6. Framing and Engraving:

Perform framing to verify the engraving position and then start the engraving process once aligned.

Tips for using the NEJE RA6⭐

  •  Firmware: Ensure the NEJE Max 4 firmware is updated via NEJE software for compatibility.
  •  Maintenance: Regularly inspect the 5-pin cable and rotary connections for wear to ensure consistent performance.
  •  Alignment: For precision, verify the workpiece is securely clamped and the rotary is aligned with the laser module.
  •  Software Errors: Reset GRBL settings in NEJE software or LightBurn and reapply configurations.
  • Engraving Errors: When you are making patterns that need to be mirrored, such as text, remember to mirror your pattern or text in advance. NEJE software allows you to right-click the image to flip the angle, and the lightburn software allows you to use the flip tool to adjust it.
